There are some films where the cast list just piques your interest – whether for good reasons – or bad! The Expendables has to be just that sort of film – a cast list of ‘greats’ from the 90s and a few names from more recent times. Whether that appeals or not – it’s getting good reviews and has to be a good bet for a mindless night out with a group of friends at our local Dominion cinema.

Indian Meat Treats

So – after an evening of questionable culture – pop along to see us . There is only one dish that we can recommend – and that is the pure meat delight of our Tandoori Mixed Grill!

From 6th to 8th August, the city welcomes the Edinburgh Mela to its new location at Leith Links. The Mela is an Annual celebration of Asian culture – popular in cities all across the UK – but we think the Edinburgh Mela is the best!

The Edinburgh Mela this year is focussing on the universal need to migrate. The festival is three days of live music, dancing, children’s activities, outdoor activities and authentic foods from all around the world. Highlights will include a fashion show with a Harris Tweed theme including designer saris, and “Naturally Inspired,” the Mela’s first cross festival collaboration, which will see it joining forces with the International Jazz and Storytelling festivals.

The weathermen are claiming that the weekend will be sunny – so what a chance to get out and enjoy the experience. After all that Asian culture – why not come and see us on the Sunday to celebrate with us – and enjoy our fantastic celebration of Indian food with our weekly Sunday buffet (£9.95 for adults and £5.95 for kids).

Sunday Matinee Mela

Whilst we’re sure lots of our customers will go and see it with their friends – we reckon that the best way to enjoy a proper family film like this is by going to a matinee – followed by a nice meal out to complete the day. While the kids are off but you have to be back to work on Monday – go on a Sunday – and then come and enjoy eating as much as you can at our all day curry buffet.

Just over the road from our Morningside base is Edinburgh’s Church Hill Theatre. Fresh from recent renovations this ever popular venue is soon to be busy with the Edinburgh Fringe Festival arriving in town.

Alice’s Midsummer Night’s Curry

A couple of plays have caught our eye – firstly an American take on the Shakespeare classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream complete with the promise of rude mechanicals which runs from 09/08/2010 to 14/08/2010!

MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM

A rollicking and romantic mix of dance, text and original music combined in a hilarious, over-the-top production of Shakespeare’s fantastical play. Demonstrating that American teenagers have the acting chops to tackle the bard. Featuring a dance prologue, whimsical costumes and rude mechanicals hamming it up during the play within a play, this fast paced production weaves three stories of young love, magical creatures and home-spun doofs in a moonlit forest on a midsummer’s eve. An exceptional acting ensemble. Appropriate for all ages. ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ is a wonderful play to introduce young audiences to Shakespeare.

The second is a Texas school’s take on Alice in Wonderland with a Scottish twist running from 10/08/2010
to 14/08/2010.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND

An absurd, random, quirky, outrageous, humorous, creepy version of ‘Alice’ (with a Scottish twist) performed by a small troupe from a tiny school located slightly north of oldest town in Texas: Central Heights High School, Nacogdoches. This version of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ was originated by the Manhattan Project under the direction of Andre Gregory. Mister Gregory indicates that the essential thing is to use the script as a trampoline for the imagination. Our production is hopefully a seemingly improvised collaborative ensemble piece that reflects Mister Gregory’s original intention while incorporating the artistic spirit of our players.

Cheeky Korma

Both of these sound a bit cheeky – and what could be better than a cheeky curry before or after to complete your evening of culture. As we are talking about a Scottish Summer evening we’re expecting rain but don’t worry. We’re so close to the venue even a theatre programme held above the head will provide enough cover.

This month we’re going to tell you about a few upcoming movies. There are some obvious classics such as Toy Story 3 – why not go to a matinee and pop in for a curry afterwards?

Perhaps more excitingly for anyone of a certain age are the two remakes coming out late in July. The Saturday teatime classic of The A-Team is finally getting a film release (many a child’s fantasty back in the 1980s) as well as the classic, The Karate Kid, getting relaunched with Jackie Chan as the mystery master.

Whilst, there will be many more things being shown at the Dominion this month – we reckon that these three are the perfect night out films – whether for a family trip or just secretly on your own!

Just remember which Indian restaurant to pop in and pick up a curry banquet on your way home so you can discuss whether the movie was as good as you remember from your childhood!

As you read this posting – we want you to remember that we’re not trying to chase you away as customers, we’re just keeping you informed! As lovers of great authentic Indian cuisine (as all our customers are!) and avid readers of our blog – you must know great food. As such – are just keen to let you know that the weekend of 29th and 30th May is the annual “Taste of Edinburgh” festival in Edinburgh’s Inverleith park.

We aren’t exhibiting – but numerous different great city restaurants are – and here at the Clay Oven we certainly don’t grudge our customers exploring other types of cuisine – we are confident that our great Indian food will be more than good enough to bring them back to us! Have a great time – but remember – we look forward to seeing you in our restaurant or delivering your next takeaway.

As we say – we’re not far away at all – so you can either pop in for a quick bhajee whilst your child is learning the violin, or pop by after your guitar lesson to talk about the new chords you’ve picked up over a lovely curry.
