All the way from Kathmandu – the perfect way to combine chicken and lentils. An extremely popular curry made with marinaded chicken tikka, cooked to perfection in the tandoor before adding a delightful lentil sauce subtly flavoured with fresh spring onion, garlic, cinnamon and ginger.
Featured Dish – Achari Gosht
A fantastic lamb curry crying out to be eaten with whatever fresh bread takes your fancy.
The lamb is marinated to add flavour and to enhance the tenderness before being cooked in a spicy pickle gravy. The heat is turned up a notch with the addition of whole green chillies and fresh coriander.
A delightful lamb dish – and those people with a more delicate palette can simply hide the chillies at the side of the plate and enjoy the rest.
Featured Dish – Ginger Murgh
A fiery tangy ginger sauce covers lovely freshly grilled chicken kebabs to create a flavoursome dish. This is then further complemented by the distinct flavour of fresh coriander.
We recommend you order with lots of fresh pilau rice – and a potato based side dish (perhaps the classic Bombay Aloo) for a great meal.
Clay Oven Movie(s) of the Month
This month we’re going to tell you about a few upcoming movies. There are some obvious classics such as Toy Story 3 – why not go to a matinee and pop in for a curry afterwards?
Perhaps more excitingly for anyone of a certain age are the two remakes coming out late in July. The Saturday teatime classic of The A-Team is finally getting a film release (many a child’s fantasty back in the 1980s) as well as the classic, The Karate Kid, getting relaunched with Jackie Chan as the mystery master.
Whilst, there will be many more things being shown at the Dominion this month – we reckon that these three are the perfect night out films – whether for a family trip or just secretly on your own!
Just remember which Indian restaurant to pop in and pick up a curry banquet on your way home so you can discuss whether the movie was as good as you remember from your childhood!
A Feast of Football!
![]()
The 2010 FIFA World Cup is upon us – and with football on pretty much every day from the minute you get home from work why waste time slaving over a hot stove? Okay Scotland aren’t in it – but England are and what better way to enjoy cheering either them or their opposition on than with a fantastic Indian treat!
Order a fantastic authentic Indian meal from us here at The Clay Oven in Morningside, Edinburgh – or pop by our restaurant on your way home to pick one up. Call 0131 447 9724 to order a takeaway or get it delivered. The only things you’ll have to wash up each day are a spoon and a plate for everyone eating with you!
Featured Dish – Chicken Tikka Khumbi Dupiaza
Our dish of the month is something really special. For a quick translation – Dupiaza is a curry with twice the usual amount of onions – and khumbi are mushrooms. To this mushroom and onion base we add fantastic tandoor grilled Chicken Tikka pieces and lovely crunchy peppers to create a superb mixture of textures and flavours. This is one of our specialities – and you will know why when you taste it.
Hopefully we’ve managed to whet your appetite. If we have this is one to enjoy with lots of fresh flavoursome rice to soak up the flavour – and some nice fluffy naan to wrap around the mushrooms and chicken to create a perfect little mouthful.
Qype Offer – Free Drink Voucher
We’re big fans of Qype – an internet site that lets real people review everything and everywhere. Anyone can read the reviews and find out a bit more about what is going on nearby. We’re on Qype under the Edinburgh Indian Restaurants & Takeaway category – you can go and have a look at some photos of our great food – a couple of the restaurant – but more importantly – see what others think about us.
Drink on us
If you’re on Qype – or want to register you can review us and broadcast your thoughts on meals at the Clay Oven. Either way – you can print off a voucher that will enable you to have a free drink with your meal (subject to some terms and conditions!)

As such – are just keen to let you know that the weekend of 29th and 30th May is the annual “Taste of Edinburgh” festival in Edinburgh’s Inverleith park.
We aren’t exhibiting – but numerous different great city restaurants are – and here at the Clay Oven we certainly don’t grudge our customers exploring other types of cuisine – we are confident that our great Indian food will be more than good enough to bring them back to us! Have a great time – but remember – we look forward to seeing you in our restaurant or delivering your next takeaway.
